Entro has donated a total of $10,000 in support of the Colorado School of Mines Formula SAE team

HILLSBORO, Ore. – January 9, 2019 – Engineering and manufacturing specialists, Entro Industries, has continued support of the Colorado School of Mines Formula SAE team this year, bringing their support total to $10,000. Mines is well known for its engineering and applied science research and ranks in Forbes Top 25 America’s Top Colleges in the West.

Formula SAE is a student design competition organized by SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) International that provides students the opportunity to design, fabricate and then race at competition the small formula-style racing cars they work throughout the year to complete.

"The SAE formula race team gives the students the opportunity to actually design and build something with their own hands applying the knowledge they’ve learned in the classroom to work towards a common goal," said Shawn Smith, president of Entro. “Entro believes Formula SAE helps prepare students for being successful in the engineering industry.”

With the different subsystems involved from building a car from the ground up, Formula SAE students must work on many different aspects of engineering including structural design, electronic controls, fluid modeling, heat transfer, suspension design, welding, machining, composite material fabrication, all while maintaining a budget. This level of work brings students from a varied engineering background - including majors in mechanical, electrical, chemical, petroleum, and environmental engineering - together to work as a team.

Entro’s connection with Mines goes beyond the fact that the school is one of top engineering schools in the country, Shawn Smith’s son is a sophomore on the team.
