“The work on these walking systems is the result of a substantial development effort that utilizes patent pending designs to move these rigs,” said Chief Engineer, Harlan Smith. The ideal Rigs design presented unique design challenges to adding a walking system. The rigs are built very well, with the standard drawworks location at ground level. A method had to be developed that would allow the rig to carry the drawworks with it while walking. The design allows the rig to be used conventionally, in a single-hole configuration, or in a walking configuration for multi-hole pads.
